Shamblin Tabbed Preseason Player Of The Year, Five Titans Earn All-MAAC Honors By Inside Lacrosse

BALTIMORE (1/21/2020) -- Senior Logan Shamblin led five Titans with preseason honors as the University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team earned some high praise by Inside Lacrosse.

The Titans were picked to finish second in the league behind defending champion Marist. Monmouth was selected third, Canisius and Quinnipiac fifth.

The Inside Lacrosse MAAC Preseason Player of the Year went to Shamblin, the reigning MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. He finished third in the MAAC with a career-best 11.47 saves per game, fifth in school history, while his 172 saves was also a career-best and fifth in the record books. In MAAC play, he led the league in save percentage (.616) and with 14.0 saves per game, while ranking fourth with an 8.71 goals-against average.

Senior Alex Akins, Sam McClain and Seth Mendell along with junior Paul Manuszak join Shamblin on the preseason All-Conference Team.

Akins and McClain, both team captains and All-MAAC selections, help the Titans form one of the best defenses in the league. Akins saw action in all 15 games last year and led the team with a career-high 18 caused turnovers, while McClain tallied 14 caused turnovers - third on the team - and 30 ground balls - tied for fifth on the squad.

Mendell is coming off a career year that saw him lead the team with 37 goals and was second with 44 points, topping the MAAC in goals per game (2.64), 28th in the nation, and also tied for first on the team and in the conference with seven man-up goals, which was 12th in the country. Through three years, he is fourth in the school record book with 74 goals and fifth with 97 points.

Manuszak claimed the MAAC LSM of the Year last season as he posted career highs in every category with nine points, six goals, three assists, 17 caused turnovers and 72 ground balls. He was second on the squad in caused turnovers and ground balls and was fifth in the conference and 45th in DI with 4.80 ground balls per game.

Detroit Mercy will open the season on the road at Jacksonville on Feb. 1 and the Titans first home game is set for Feb. 18 against Bellarmine at Ultimate Soccer Arenas.
