DETROIT (10/19/2020) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team recently started practice last week, but some of the Titan alums have also started their seasons.
Detroit Mercy currently has five Titans in action professionally as some of the premier overseas leagues have tipped off.
Gerald Blackshear Jr. '19 is in Slovenia with
Rogaska in the Slovenian
Liga Nova KBM, where the team is off to a 3-1 start. In four games,
Blackshear Jr. is tallying 8.3 points and 5.3 rebounds.
Evan Bruinsma '14 is in Hungary with Szombathely in the Hungarian A Division, where in his first game with the team, he helped them to a 95-93 victory over 12th-ranked
Szedeak, scoring 13 points with six rebounds.
Thomas Kennedy '10 is back in Japan as one of the top players and scorers for the Hiroshima Dragonflies of the Japanese B-1 League. The team is off to a slow 1-5 start, but he is recording 11.2 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.
Nick Minnerath '13 is back in South Korea, suiting up for the SK Knights in the South Korean KBL. He scored 11 points in a 91-87 triumph over the Seoul Samsung Thunders to help his team move to 3-1 on the year. In his first year with the team, he is posting 8.7 points and 2.1 rebounds per game.
Chase Simon '12 is currently in France with JDA Dijon Bourgogne in the French Jeep ELITE ProA. He just scored 19 points in an 87-71 victory over Pau-Lacq-Orthez to help his team improve to 3-0 on the year. Through three games, he is averaging 12.3 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game.
