DETROIT (11/20/2020) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team is set to open the season in less than a week when it travels to Kentucky for the Bluegrass Showcase.
The Titans will meet a highly-ranked and veteran Richmond team in the season opener on Wednesday, Nov. 25, but all eyes will be on the family aspect of the match-up with Kentucky on Nov. 27.
Detroit Mercy obviously brings in the father-son-son trifecta in head coach
Mike Davis, assistant coach
Mike Davis Jr., and leading returning scorer in junior
Antoine Davis.
Against Kentucky, it will be father-son as Titan graduate senior
Brad Calipari battles his dad in Wildcats' head coach John Calipari. Brad spent three years on the UK basketball team before transferring to Detroit Mercy last year.
Another family combo the two teams will have is junior forward
Chris Brandon and his cousin in Kentucky assistant coach Jai Lucas. Brandon's uncle and Jai's dad is former NBA player and head coach John Lucas, who also worked and trained
Antoine Davis.
So a Happy Thanksgiving it will be in Lexington as these family connections meet on the hardwood.
