DETROIT (2/13/2020) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team opens a four-game road trip Friday evening, visiting Wisconsin for a pair of contests this weekend beginning with a battle with host Green Bay from the Kress Events Center. Opening tip in Green Bay is set for 8 p.m. ET and 7 p.m. CT. The game may be seen live on ESPN-Plus.
The Titans (3-9 Horizon League) are coming off a 58-52 home win over UIC last Saturday, the sixth-straight time the red, white and blue have defeated the Flames. Detroit Mercy plays four-straight on the road before hosting two games in the final six regular-season games of the 2019-20 season. Detroit Mercy plays at Milwaukee on Sunday from the Klotsche Center.
On The Court:
- The Titans are 3-9 in the Horizon League standings with six games left to play, just one game back of eighth-place Youngstown State.
- Freshman guard Sylare Starks leads all Horizon League freshmen in scoring (10.1 ppg) and has scored in double figures a team-best 14 times in 23 games.
- Senior Zoey Oatis ranks third in the Horizon League in steals per game (1.7) and reached the 40-steal plateau in a season for the second time in her career.
- Starks is also eighth in 3-pointers made per game (1.6) and total triples made (36) among HL players, as well as sixth in minutes played per game (30.5).
- Sophomore guard Jiera Shears led Detroit Mercy in scoring in a 58-52 win over UIC and is averaging 6.7 points across her past six contests.
- The Titans are 8-52 all-time against Green Bay, with their last victory a 76-72 win at home during the 2016-17 season, when the Phoenix were nationally-ranked.
- Detroit Mercy freshmen have scored in double figures 31 times this season with the class scoring 53-percent of the points for the squad.
- The Titans have earned three Horizon League Freshman of the Week honors from three different players -- Sylare Starks (Nov. 25), Bridgid Fox (Dec. 16) and Markyia McCormick (Dec. 23). It's the first time in league history that three different players from the same team have earned the Freshman of the Week honor in the same season.
- Starks was the fastest Titan to 200 career points (20 games) since the 2014-15 season, when guard Darianne Seward reached the mark in 18 contests.
- The Titans are one of the youngest teams in NCAA Division I with 10 underclassmen (five freshmen, five sophomores) and holds an average age of 19.3Â on its roster.
- Head coach Bernard Scott is in his fifth season at the helm of the Titans and has led them to two top-four finishes and a Horizon League championship game in 2017.

The Titans out-scored the visiting Flames 22-8 in the first quarter and 38-16 in the first half overall to help the red, white and blue to a 58-52 victory last Saturday. The Titans held UIC to just 3-of-29 shooting in the first half of the triumph. Freshman guard

Senior
Zoey Oatis was big down the stretch and finished with 11 points, eight rebounds and a team-best four steals, part of a season-high 12 thefts for the Titans. Sophomore guard
Jiera Shears had a team-high 14 points, hitting 9-of-12 free throws, including several clutch ones late. The Titans made 15-of-22 free throws overall as a team and had 41 rebounds.
Scouting Green Bay:
- Green Bay is 12-12 on the season and 7-5 in the Horizon League after falling at Milwaukee last weekend by a 65-60 margin from the Klotsche Center.
- The Phoenix are just 4-6 from the Kress Events Center in 2019-20, but close the regular season with four of six contests in Green Bay.
- Green Bay is once again one of the more stingy teams defensively in the conference ranking second in field goal percentage defense (37.2).
- Redshirt junior guard Frankie Wurtz ranks fourth in the Horizon League in scoring (15.4 ppg) and leads all players in 3-pointers made (58).
- Caitlyn Hibner also averages in double figures at 11.0 points per game, while leading the squad in rebounding (6.9 rebounds per game).
- Meghan Pingel is third in the conference in assists per game (3.6) and second in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.8).

Detroit Mercy plays Milwaukee on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET in its second game of the weekend in Wisconsin. The Titans then head to Ohio next weekend to play Youngstown State (Friday, Feb. 21) and Cleveland State (Sunday, Feb. 23) next weekend, before hosting Northern Kentucky (Thursday, Feb. 27) and Wright State (Saturday, Feb. 29) at home during the final weekend of the regular season.
