DETROIT (2/15/2020) --Â The Titans erased a 15-point deficit in the second half and had a couple of chances at a game-winning shot, but it did not fall as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team dropped a 67-66 overtime contest to Cleveland State on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore
Marquis Moore posted a game-high 20 points with five rebounds. Sophomore
Antoine Davis netted 17 points and handed out four assists and sophomore
Chris Brandon collected 17 rebounds - one shy of his career-high and had seven points with three blocks.Â
The Titans (6-21, 4-10 HL) trailed by 15 at the break, 35-20, but cut it down and took the lead with 1:35 left as junior Dwayne Rose Jr, nailed a triple to give the red, white and blue a 59-58 lead. Cleveland State (10-17, 6-8 HL) was able to tie the game at 59-all at the end of regulation.
In overtime, the Titans tied the game at 63-63 with 1:06 left, but the Vikings hit a triple with 34 seconds left and that sealed the game.
Senior
Justin Miller and sophomore
Willy Isiani each had eight points and three rebounds apiece, while Rose jr. finished with six points.
The Titans shot 40.7 percent for the game and registered seven steals and six blocks.
Detroit Mercy will be in action next Friday night, Feb. 21, when they square off against visiting Green Bay for Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and all tickets can be purchased atÂ

First Half:
- Moore would score the first six points for Detroit Mercy putting the Titans on the board in the first, 10-6
- Miller's steal off of a CSU turnover and subsequent foul led to a Davis basket, his first points of the afternoon, which would trim the CSU lead to just six, 14-8
- A CSU foul puts the Titans in the bonus the rest of the way in the first keeping the Titans within striking distance, 16-10 with 10:50 left in the half
- The Titans would try to make a surge as Brandon's tip-dunk off a Moore missed shot attempt cut the deficit to 12, with 29 seconds left in the first half, but the Vikings led 35-20 at the break
Second Half:
- Moore comes off of a curl and was fouled in the act of shooting a jumper to start the scoring for the Titans in the second period. After notching a pair of valuable free throws, Detroit Mercy was down 12, in the beginning of the second 35-23.Â
- The Titans battled back trapping CSU's perimeter players and being aggressive, closing out on shooters and were able to hold the Vikings scoreless for almost a full three minutes.Â
- Isiani's quick five points off the bench saw the Titans come within nine, 39-30, as the Titans were able to string together 3-for-4 from the field. Isiani would finish the contest with eight points in fifteen minutes of game action.Â
- A CSU turnover at 7:48 gave the Titans some breathing room, as by this time, they had trimmed the lead to just four points after Davis hits a one-and-one at the FT line.Â
- Â Brandon's tip-dunk at 2:21 would cut the CSU lead to two 58-56.Â
- Â Rose Jr. hit a big three-pointer at 1:35 in the second to give the Titans a one-point lead, their second lead of the matchup. The team is on a 5-0 run at this point and giving chase.Â
- After A Cleveland State block on Rose, the Titans receive possession back to them with 45 seconds left with the score tied at 59 a piece
- The Titans had a couple of chances to win it, but Davis' last shot hits the rim and bounces off, and the game headed to overtime
Overtime:
- After the Vikings scored first, sophomore Alonde LeGrand's steal in the half-court set led to a pass up court to a cutting Marquis Moore for a fast-break opportunity but was fouled. After icing a pair of free throws the game is tied now at 61-61 with 1:45 left.Â
- Another play involving Moore led to him getting fouled in the act of shooting, which led to a goaltending call on CSU, giving the Titans a basket and an and-one conversion. Moore misses the free throw and the game is still tied 61-61 with 1:05 left.Â
- CSU's 3-pointer with :35 left put the Vikings up three 66-63.Â
- Yet another Brandon rebound and put back led to him being fouled with a trip to the foul line for two with a chance to tie the game 67-65. He would split the pair, making it a one-point game 67-66.Â
Game Notes:
- The Titans still lead the all-time series, 44-26
- Davis came into the game fourth in the country and leading the Horizon League in scoring at 23.5 points per game.Â
- Davis saw his streak of 55-straight gamed with a 3-pointer come to an end, which was the fourth-longest active streak in the country
- Davis passed Brian Humes and Chase Simon to move to 20th in school history with 1,388 points, just 18 behind Juwan Howard Jr., for 19th place
- Brandon has been a beast on the glass in his last 16 games, pulling down at least 10 rebounds in 10 contests and is averaging 11.3 in that span with four double-doubles
- Brandon also has at least four offensive rebounds in nine of those games
- Brandon's career-high in rebounds is 18 at Oakland earlier this season
- Brandon came into the game leading the HL with 1.42 blocks per game and now has 40 total swats on the year
- Moore now has 10 double-digit scoring efforts on the season
- Moore's previous career-high in scoring was 18 in the win at Milwaukee
- Isiani now has eight points in two of the last three games
