Titans Tripped Up in Road Game at Butler

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (2/20/2020) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team dropped its second road game of the season Thursday afternoon, falling to Butler by a 19-4 margin from Varsity Field on the campus of Butler University.

Three Titans found the back of the net on the afternoon with junior attacker Kristina Ellis scoring twice and junior attacker Kamryn Corraro and sophomore midfielder Taryn McManus each scoring goals. Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Shrader made her first collegiate start and made seven saves for the Titans (0-3).

Junior midfielder Taylor Cantelon was also active all day and tallied three caused turnovers, three ground balls and two draw controls. Detroit Mercy earned 10 draw controls of the 25 recorded in the contest, with sophomore midfielder Elise Harder tallying three and freshman attacker Marina Butler nabbing two draw controls. Junior defender Claire Conway also had two ground balls.

McManus scored the Titans' first goal to cut the deficit to 2-1 and Corraro scored her fourth goal of the year nine minutes later to trim the Butler lead to 4-2 with 13:01 left in the first half. The Bulldogs went on a scoring run to end the first half, leading 12-2 at the halftime break.

Ellis scored both of her goals in the second half for the red, white and blue -- her first two goals of the 2020 campaign. She went 2-for-2 on free-position attempts.

The Titans made eight saves in the contest and went 12-for-16 on clear attempts.
