Davis, Rose Jr. Tally 20 In Road Setback At UIC

CHICAGO (2/27/2020) -- Two Titans scored in double figures and the Titans had an early lead, but the UIC Flames went on a run in the second half to earn an 84-67 win over the Detroit Mercy on Thursday night.

Sophomore Antoine Davis led the way with a game-high 26 points with five assists, four rebounds and tied his career-high with four steals. Junior Dwayne Rose Jr. added 22 and eight rebounds and sophomore Chris Brandon tallied eight boards off the bench.

Detroit Mercy (7-23, 5-12 HL) took a five-point lead, 18-13, with 12:47 left in the first before UIC (15-15, 10-7) jumped ahead, 25-22, with 5:44 left. A 3-pointer by graduate senior Brad Calipari tied the game all up and a free throw by Davis put the team ahead, 27-26.

The half went back and forth after that with Detroit taking a 33-32 advantage off a Rose Jr. jumper at the 1:26 mark, but the red, white and blue trailed 38-35 at the break.

In the second half, the game was tied at 38-all when the Flames started to take control as a 12-2 run put the team up 55-43 with 14:15 left. Detroit Mercy was then by just eight, 59-51, at the 9:15 mark, when the Flames used a 17-2 spurt to put the game away.

Brandon scored five points and sophomore Boe Nguidjol added five points and six rebounds.

The Titans will close out the regular season on Saturday as they play at IUPUI in a game slated for a noon tip.
