Davis Earns First Team All-HL, Brandon Tabbed To All-Defensive Squad

INDIANAPOLIS (3/2/2020) -- A pair of Detroit Mercy sophomores earned some high praise from the Horizon League as Antoine Davis was named First Team All-HL and Chris Brandon was on the All-Defensive Team as the league released its postseason awards on Monday.

Davis is the first Titan to earn two First Team All-League honors since Ray McCallum was selected as a sophomore and junior in the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons, while Brandon is the first Titan on the conference's All-Defensive Team since Eli Holman in 2010-2011.

Davis led the Horizon League in scoring for the second-straight year - the first player to accomplish that feat since Ray McCallum in 2000 and 2001 - with 24.3 points per game, fourth in the nation. He had 21 games with 20 or more points, six 30-point outings and a season-high and HL-best 43 points on the season.

He also led the conference in free throws made (154) and free throw percentage (90.1%), second in three-point field goals per game (3.37), third in three-point field-goal percentage (32.4) and steals (1.73) and fourth in assists (4.5).

Davis tallied double digits in scoring in all 18 Horizon League contests, dropping 43 at IUPUI, 34 against Youngstown State, 29 at Milwaukee and against Green Bay and 28 at regular-season champion Wright State, where he also dished out a career-high nine assists. He tied his career-high with seven rebounds twice, at Green Bay and at home versus IUPUI, and also tied his career-high twice with four steals at UIC and against Oakland.

Brandon totaled a HL-best 44 blocks, was second with 1.43 bocks per game and ranked fifth in the league with 8.1 rebounds per game. He posted a team-high four double-doubles on the year and pulled down at least 10 rebounds in 11 contests, including nine times in conference action.

He scored a career-high 18 points and blocked a career-best six shots with 12 rebounds against IUPUI, tied for the most blocks in the HL on the year. He pulled down a career-high 18 rebounds - the most boards by a Titan since 1992 - with three blocks at Oakland. He had 17 rebounds with seven points and three blocks against Cleveland State and registered a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds at Wright State.
