DETROIT (4/13/2020) -- The University of Detroit Mercy Department of Athletics is unveiling its All-Decade Teams of the 2010s, compiling the best student-athletes across the past 10 seasons (2010-19) into a First and Second Team in each intercollegiate sport. Up first is Titan women's soccer, which saw a lot of success during the decade.
The Titans earned 81 victories during the decade (2010-19), reaching the semifinals of the Horizon League Championship seven times and also making a HL Championship game appearance in 2014. A Titan earned First Team All-Horizon League 17 different times and All-League honors 25 times during the decade, including Kaitlyn Quarrell (2011-13) and Alyssa Riley (2012-14) both receiving First Team honors on three separate occasions. Quarrell was four-time All-League overall.
Fifteen more Titans earned Horizon League All-Tournament Team honors.
Quarrell was voted the Horizon League Offensive Player of the Year in 2012, while three Titans were named Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year during the decade -- Alexandra Suschak (co-2011), Haley Burtraw (2014) and Rachel DeLuca (2016). Three times a Titan goalkeeper was named HL Goalkeeper of the Year during the decade with Nora Abolins earning the honor in 2012 and Marina Manzo picking up the award twice (2016, 2018).
Suschak and Quarrell also earned NSCAA All-Region honors during the decade, while Suschak (2011), Abolins (2012), Victoria Sollestre (2014) and Anna Mindling (2016) all received Scholar All-Region laurels during the 10-year time frame. Mindling was also CoSIDA Academic All-District in 2016, while Suschak was Scholar All-America by the NSCAA in 2011.
All-League honors, award winners, standout and record-breaking performances, academic achievements and accolades as well as submissions from fans were all considered for each of the Detroit Mercy All-Decade Teams of the 2010s.
