Titans Nearly Tarnish Perfect Milwaukee

DETROIT (10/14/2021) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team gave first-place Milwaukee all it could handle, but came up on the short side of a 3-2 decision at Titan Field on Thursday afternoon.

The Titans (2-12-1, 1-6-1 HL) had goals from junior Taylor Stanley and sophomore Erica Leinweber, both assisted by sophomore Erica Toupin, while sophomore goalie Jazmine Scott kept the red, white and blue in the game with eight saves on the day.

Detroit Mercy attempted the first shot of the game, but Milwaukee (13-1-0, 8-0-0 HL) got on the board first just 3:23 into the contest.

Scott made two saves after that and the Titans were able to pepper the Panthers with a few shots, eventually tying the game at 1-1 in the 25th minute. Toupin helped set up Leinweber, who found the back of the net for her third score of the season.

Scott made another save to keep it at 1-1, but a foul in the box gave Milwaukee a penalty kick, which was converted for a 2-1 lead in the 29th minute and that is how the game went into the break.

In the second half, the Titans quickly tied the game just two minutes in as Toupin was the playmaker again, finding Stanley, who netted her second of the season to knot it at 2-2.

She almost had another a minute later, but was turned away and on the ensuing possession, Scott was able to deny a Panthers' shot to keep the game all squared.

Milwaukee was able to jump out in front in the 61st minute off a free kick, which set up the go-ahead 3-2 score.

The Titans had one more look on net as freshman Sarah Soraghan's attempt was saved a few minutes later and despite Scott making three more stops the rest of the way, they could not find the equalizer.

Leinweber, Stanley and Toupin each had a team-high two shots on the day, with both of Leinweber's and Stanley's on frame.

Overall, Milwaukee had a 19-9 edge on shots and a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks in the contest.

The Titans will hit the road one last time in the regular season as the red, white and blue travel to UIC on Sunday with kick-off slated for 2:00 p.m.
