DETROIT (10/23/2021) -- Freshman Sarah Soraghan scored her first career goal off a corner kick feed from sophomore Erica Toupin as Detroit Mercy played visiting Purdue Fort Wayne to a 1-1 double-overtime draw on Senior Day Saturday at Titan Field.
Prior to the game, the Titans honored the seven-member senior class in Hannah Alexis, Carlie Castiglione, Ana Ginez, Nasreen Kobeissi, Emily Lorkowski, Madelyn Rush and Hailey Wentzloff.
After a scoreless first half, Soraghan got the Titans (3-12-2, 2-6-2HL) on the board in the 52nd minute as she connected on a header off a Toupin's corner kick feed for a 1-0 advantage.
After hitting the crossbar three times in the second half, Purdue Fort Wayne (5-6-6, 4-4-2HL) finally broke through in the 82nd minute with a penalty kick goal for the equalizer.
Neither team could get the golden goal in either of the two overtime periods.
Purdue Fort Wayne outshot the Titans by a slim 16-15 margin, but Detroit Mercy had a 6-1 advantage on corner kicks.
Sophomore Jazmine Scott made four saves in net, including two in the extra sessions.
Detroit Mercy with host arch-rival Oakland for a Metro Series season finale on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 7:00 p.m.
