HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (10/9/2021) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team fought hard all night with the Northern Kentucky Norse, but came up just short in a 1-0 final on the road on Saturday.
In the first half, the Titans (2-4-4, 1-2-2 HL) took three shots coming from redshirt-seniors
Kyle Bandyk with two and
Demetri Pliakos with one which found their way on net.
In the second half, the offense picked up the pace, firing off eight shots led by sophomore
Samory Powder with four, Pliakos had two, while redshirt-senior
Daniel Iyok and freshman
Daniel Larsson each had one apiece.
The Norse (5-7, 3-3-0 HL) would get the lone goal of the match in the final seconds of the first overtime period.
Following a shot in the overtime period by redshirt-senior
Jake Poorman, the Titans would finish the game with 12 shots, putting three on goal. Detroit Mercy added four corner kicks on the night.
Redshirt-freshman goalkeeper
Jonathan Kliewer made six saves on the match, his third-most in a game this season, and coming a week after a career-best performance against Oakland.
Following the overtime duel with the Norse, the red, white, and blue will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 13, as the squad travels to Indiana, to meet the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons at 7:00 p.m.
