DETROIT (11/5/2021) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team has named four upperclassmen captains for the upcoming season in graduate seniors Brett Erskine and Paul Manuszak as well as juniors Ryan Birney and Kyle Loken.

"These four student-athletes represent our culture and who we want to be as a program," said head coach Chris Kolon. "They work extremely hard, on and off the field, and their teammates respect them. They will be great leaders for our team as we venture into a new conference."

This is the second-straight year that Manuszak will serve as captain, while the other three will be wearing the 'C' for the first time.

Manuszak - a three-time All-Academic Team selection - is a two-time MAAC LSM Of The Year, who led the team with 36 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers, while scoring two goals with an assist last season. He ranked third in the MAAC and 16th in the nation with 1.86 caused turnovers per game, while ranking fourth in the conference and 33rd in the country with 5.14 ground balls per game and enters his senior season seventh in school history with 156 ground balls, third with 3.63 ground balls per game and ninth with 39 caused turnovers. 

Erskine was a First Team All-MAAC pick last year as he topped the team in points (25), goals (17) and assists (8), while picking up 15 ground balls and causing five turnovers. He is also a three-time All-Academic Team honoree and currently ranks fourth in school history with 110 points, fourth with 2.68 points per game, fifth with 71 goals, third at 1.73 goals per game, seventh with 39 assists and fifth with .95 assists per game

Birney and Loken were also members of the MAAC All-Academic Team. Birney tied for third on the team with 12 points and was second with 10 goals last year, while Loken tallied six points on five goals and an assist to go with 13 ground balls and five caused turnovers. 

The Titans ended their fall practice as they get ready for their first year in the Atlantic Sun Conference in 2022.
