CLEVELAND (2/16/2021) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 road match at Cleveland State on Tuesday. The match was played indoors from Krenzler Field on the campus of the Vikings. With the setback, the Titans fall to 1-2 overall and 1-2 in Horizon League play this season.
Cleveland State (2-1, 2-1 HL) scored two goals in the span of 85 seconds midway through the opening half. The Vikings scored on a penalty kick at the 22:04 mark before scoring just a minute later to take a 2-0 advantage over Detroit Mercy. The Vikings added a third goal in the 62nd minute to close out the scoring.
Detroit Mercy had the first four shots of the contest with junior
Dominic Gatson getting off two shot attempts in the opening 20 minutes. Junior
Ryan Halloran had the first shot on goal in the match in the 19th minute and junior
Bennett Brooks hit one wide of the goal in the following minute.
Cleveland State then scored on the next two shots of the match to suddenly go ahead 2-0. The Titans had an 8-7 shot advantage in the first half, but couldn't find the back of the net.
In the second half, Titan freshmanÂ
Samory Powder had a shot blocked in the 56th minute, followed by a couple of Detroit Mercy corner kick chances. The Vikings then scored in the 62nd minute to take a three-goal lead.
CSU edged the Titans in shots overall in the match, 12-10. The red, white and blue did earn eight corner kick opportunities. The Titans were whistled for 18 fouls against 11 for the Vikings. Each team had one yellow card.
Gatson had two shots to lead the Titans, while juniors

Ryan Halloran and senior
Mohamad Miri all were credited with shots on goal. Redshirt junior goalkeeper
Devin Mendez made two saves in goal.
Several Titans made their collegiate debuts in the match in
