INDIANAPOLIS (2/8/2021) -- For the second-straight week, University of Detroit Mercy junior
Antoine Davis was named the Horizon League men's basketball player of the week, announced the HL office on Monday.
It was then announced that he was selected the Lute Olson Award National Player of the Week by CollegeInsider.com.
Davis posted 28.0 points, 3.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game to lead the Titans to a home sweep of Purdue Fort Wayne, extending Detroit Mercy's winning streak to five in a row and seven of the last eight. He also shot 47.1% from the field (16-of-34), 63.2% from three (12-of-19) and a perfect 12-of-12 at the free-throw line.
The Horizon League-leading scorer began the series by tying his season-high with 30 points, hitting 9-of-17 from the field and a season-best 8-of-11 from behind the arc to go with three assists and two rebounds. The eight triples marked the seventh time in his career that he has knocked down at least seven in a game.
Davis then notched a game-high 26 points in the second contest, going 7-of-17 from the field, 4-of-8 from 3-point range and a perfect 8-of-8 at the line, to go along with four assists, three steals and three boards.
He has now scored 20 or more points in his last eight games and moved into the top spot in the Horizon League in scoring (22.0), 3-point field goals per game (3.4), free throw percentage (86.4%) and minutes played (38.4).
On the year, he is fifth in the nation in scoring and 3-pointers per game, 24th in total points (352), 57th in 3-point field goal percentage (36.4) and 57th in free-throw percentage.
Davis and the Titans will hit the road this week to meet first-place Cleveland State with Friday's game televised nationally on ESPNU at 9:00 p.m.
