DETROIT (3/30/2021) -- Freshman
Nevada Larson scored her first collegiate goal to tie Tuesday's match-up in the second half with visiting UIC, but the University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team was edged on a windy Senior Day, 2-1, from Titan Field. Prior to the match, the Titans honored seven seniors for their contributions to the program.
Larson scored in the box off a nice series of passes as freshman
Karsen Murray sent a free-kick from 25 yards out to the far post and then sophomore
Alessandra Pontoni headed the ball to the front of the net, where Larson boomed home the goal. The goal in the 64th minute tied the match at 1-1.
UIC (5-2, 5-2 Horizon League) would score the go-ahead goal in the 71st minute off a corner kick as the ball was sent into the box and Grace Setter sent a shot past defenders and Titan goalkeeper
Cece Muskovac for her second goal of the game. She also scored in the 40th minute just before halftime.
Detroit Mercy (2-5-1, 2-5-1 Horizon League) had a few offensive opportunities later in the second half, once on a scramble in the box, but senior
Olivia Elby's shot was just high of the crossbar in the 74th minute. Titan freshman
Tia Jokic had the final shot of the contest, sending one to the right of the post in the 87th minute.
Freshman
Erica Toupin had four shots and two shots on goal to lead the Titans in those categories, while as a team, the red, white and blue totaled 11 shots. UIC finished with 17 shots and 10 shots on net in the match. The Flames also had the edge in corner kicks, 10-3. Muskovac made eight saves in net on the windy day for the red, white and blue.

Olivia Elby,
Sophie Mapes,
Olivia Parra,
