ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. (4/10/2021) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's track and field team kicked off its outdoor season at the Golden Grizzly Invitational on Saturday afternoon with a host of Titans setting personal records and a school record that was broke.
The men placed second overall, with a score of 102, trailing only the hosts, Oakland University. They defeated SVSU, EMU, Michigan Tech, Concordia (Mich.), CMU and Wayne State along the way.
The Titans had 20 individual efforts inside the top-5, and also a first place finish from the 4x400m relay team of juniors

Senior
Joseph Lietzow was runner-up in the javelin with a school-record 51.11-meters/167-8, breaking the 2003 record of Jeff Masserang (49.37m/162-01.00) .
Sophomore
Zachary Zaborney recorded a pair of second-place finishes and PR's with a 6.66m/21-10 leap in the long jump and a 13.17m/43-2.5 mark in the triple jump, good for #10 on the all-time Titan list.
Graduate senior
Oliver Daniel and sophomore
Oscar Hernandez posted career bests in the 5000m, while Norkey registered a career mark in the 110-meter hurdles with a 14.95, good for second overall and ninth in the school record book.
Detroit Mercy returns to action next Sunday, Apr. 18, when the squad competes in the Bucknell Invitational.
