Titans Fall on Road to Spartans in Season Opener

EAST LANSING, Mich. (8/19/2021) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team opened the 2021 fall campaign Thursday evening, dropping a road match to Big Ten foe Michigan State from DeMartin Stadium. It was the 20th all-time meeting between the Titans and Spartans in women's soccer.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jazmine Scott received the start in net for the Titans and played all 90 minutes, making a career-high 10 saves. Senior midfielder Julie Ann Piechocki had a shot for the Titans.

The Spartans scored two goals in the first 17 minutes of the contest and added two more in the second half of the match in the 55th and 61st minutes.

Titan News & Notes
• Several Titans made their collegiate debuts in the match with Erica Leinweber and Adriana Mroz both earning the starts in their collegiate debuts.
• Also making their college debuts in the contest were Sophia Butkovich, Morgan Fox and Genevieve Crocker.
• The 12 saves as a team and 10 saves from a goalkeeper are the most since the Titans made 12 saves total against Milwaukee on Sept. 20, 2019.
• It was the 20th meeting between the Titans and Spartans in women's soccer and 10th-straight played in East Lansing.

The Titans return to action on Sunday, visiting Western Michigan in Kalamazoo for a 2 p.m. ET match. It's the first of three-straight road matches to open the 2021 fall campaign with the red, white and blue also visiting Toledo on Thursday, Aug. 26.
