KALAMAZOO, Mich. (8/22/2021) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team dropped a road match with Mid-American Conference foe Western Michigan on Sunday afternoon, falling 5-1 from the WMU Soccer Complex.
The Titans (0-2) evened the score late in the first half, 1-1, as senior midfielder
Julie Ann Piechocki scored on a shot from just outside of the box following a corner kick in the 45th minute. Freshman midfielder
Sophia Butkovich assisted on Piechocki's goal for her first collegiate point in her first career start. Piechocki's goal was the 10th of her Titan career.
Detroit Mercy had six shots in the opening 45 minutes of play, many of them coming in the final 15 minutes of the first half. Piechocki had two shots on goal for the Titans in the match, while freshman
Adriana Mroz posted two shots for the red, white and blue. Senior goalkeeper
Cece Muskovac made five saves in net for the Titans.

Morgan Fox and
Erica Leinweber and sophomore
Tia Jokic all each added shots for Detroit Mercy, which tallied seven total shots and had four corner kicks in the match.
It was the 10th meeting all-time with Western Michigan and just second since the 2003 season.
