DETROIT (8/31/2021) -- A seven-game road trip will start the season for the Titans as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team announced its non-conference schedule on Tuesday.
The opponents totaled a 116-101 record last year.
"I like the schedule in that it has a lot of good schools and winning programs and some big programs," said head coach
Mike Davis. "You have an SEC school in Mississippi State, Louisville speaks for itself and Wyoming came on strong last year and is always challenging when you play at their place."
The two home non-conference games will see Detroit Mercy hosting Western Michigan on Saturday, Dec. 11 and Central Michigan on Saturday, Dec. 18.
The Titans will begin the year at Wyoming on Nov. 10 before heading to Toledo on Nov. 13. The following week, the red, white and blue will travel to a pair of power schools in Mississippi State on Nov. 17 and Louisville on Nov. 20.
The month of November will end with a road trip to the east coast to battle Hofstra on Nov. 27 and Northeastern on Nov. 30, while the final non-conference foe will see the Titans on the road to Kent State on Dec. 9.
"I wanted a few more home games, but we had some games that we had to make up because they weren't played last year in Toledo and Northeastern so that hampered us a bit in getting more home games. Those are two good programs as is Kent State and Hofstra, winning programs that will help us get ready for conference play," added coach Davis.
The Horizon League schedule will be released at a later date as will game times.
Detroit Mercy returns six letter winners, including three-time First Team All-Horizon League selection
Antoine Davis, who is also the second leading returning scorer in the nation at 24.0 points per game.
