DETROIT (8/10/2021) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team has reloaded for the upcoming season with the addition of five Division I transfers as well as a junior college transfer in 2021-22.
Joining the Titans is graduate senior DJ Harvey, seniors Kevin McAdoo, Prince Oduro and Jordan Phillips and juniors Madut Akec and Jeramy Shaw.
"We definitely have guys coming in with some experience and a lot of depth," said head coach
Mike Davis. "We have elevated the talent we have in the program and the guys that were here this summer worked really hard. We want guys in here that will compete for positions, we haven't had that, so the talent level and depth from this class and roster is where we want it to be going."
Madut Akec * F * 6-7 * 205 * Bradenton, Fla. * Victory Rock Prep * South Florida
- Competed in 33 games at South Florida the past two seasons
- Redshirted as a freshman, but played in 18 games as a redshirt freshman, with five starts, and averaged 2.1 points and 2.1 rebounds shooting 48.1 percent from the floor and 4-of-11 from three
- Scored a career-high 10 points with a career-high eight rebounds in a road win against Tulane and also posted seven points with six rebounds against Houston
- Saw action in 15 games this past season and averaged 1.7 points and 2.5 rebounds shooting 38.2 percent while hitting 7-of-19 from behind the arc
- A two-time member of the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team
- Prepped at Victory Rock Prep in Bradenton, Florida, where he tallied 19.3 points and 9.9 rebounds as a senior, shooting 48.0-percent from three-point range, and 14.7 points and 5.9 rebounds as a junior
- Born in Tonj, South Sudan, and also lived in Uganda and Australia

- Started his collegiate career playing two seasons at Notre Dame before playing the last two years at Vanderbilt
- After sitting out his first season with the Commodores, saw action in 23 games with 10 starts in 2020-21 and tallied 6.3 points and 2.8 rebounds per game and that jumped to 14.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in the SEC Tournament
- Shot 38.9 percent overall, 36.8 percent from three and 88.9-percent from the free-throw line with 11 assists and 11 steals
- Netted double figures eight times, including a season-high 17 points and five rebounds in a win over Texas A&M in the first round of the SEC Tournament
- Scored 16 points against Arkansas and 13 points against Mississippi State
- Prior to that, he played 47 games with Notre Dame and averaged 8.6 points and 3.7 rebounds, shooting 38.5-percent with 47, 3-pointers
- Some of his big games as a member of the Fighting Irish including posting 18 points at Florida State, 18 points and a season-high eight rebounds against Georgia Tech, 19 points on a career-best four 3-point field goals against Jacksonville, 19 points with five boards versus Purdue and a career-high 19 points with six rebounds and a steal at Illinois
- Averaged 17.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists as a senior year and 15.4 points and 7.1 rebounds at DeMatha High School as he helped the program to 118 wins in his four years
- Was ranked as the No. 1 player in the state of Maryland by 24/7 Sports and MaxPreps and nationally as No. 21 (MaxPreps), No. 43 (SI.com), No. 43 (Scout), No. 44 (247Sports), No. 47 (ESPN) and No. 51 (Rivals)
Coach Davis on Harvey - "He is a really good basketball player who has also played at some high major schools. He was a top-50 player coming out of high school and he is a strong guy who can shoot and defend."
Kevin McAdoo * G * 6-2 * 180 * Pontiac, Mich. * West Bloomfield HS * Bradley
- Played last year at Bradley after playing his first two years at Eastern Michigan
- Son of Kevin McAdoo, the Titans' all-time assist leader with 615 earning four varsity letters between 1982-86
- Saw action in 17 games with eight starts last season as a member of the Braves and averaged 6.0 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game
- Posted a 1.5 assist-to-turnover ratio
- Tallied a season-best 13 points at Missouri State and notched 10 points to go along with a career-best five assists at Valparaiso
- In his first two years at EMU, he played in 59 games with 21 starts and recorded 6.7 points and 1.0 assists per game shooting 42.4-percent overall and 34.4-percent from behind the arc
- As a sophomore, he netted 8.6 points and 1.5 assists along with 30 steals and knocking down 40 triples, second on the squad
- Scored a personal-best 23 points in the 2017-18 season finale against Sam Houston State and 20 points at Central Michigan in 2018-19
- A member of the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award and Honor Roll in 2020
- Earned four letters at West Bloomfield High School and averaged 25.0 points, 5.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game, while leading his team to the final four and earning third-team all-state honors in his senior campaign
Coach Davis on McAdoo - "He is a guy with some history here with his father, but he can handle the basketball and shoot it, which will give us a few different guys and add depth with the ability to handle the ball."
Prince Oduro * F * 6-8 * 255 * Toronto, Ont. * First Love Christian Academy * South Florida
- A four-year Division I transfer who has played 69 career games at Siena, Mississippi State and South Florida
- A member of the USF Bulls last year and saw action in 17 games, averaging 2.3 points and 2.1 rebounds per game and shooting 45.9-percent from the floor
- Scored a season-high eight points and added five rebounds at Wichita State and had six points and four rebounds against Temple in the opening round of the AAC Tournament
- At Mississippi State in 2019-20, he played in 21 games and averaged 1.2 points and 0.9 rebounds, connecting on 7-of-13 shots
- As a freshman at Siena in 2017-18, he was an impact player starting 27 of the 31 games he appeared in and earning All-MAAC Rookie Team honors Tallied 9.1 points and 5.1 rebounds shooting 48.4-percent from the field with 21 blocks
- Notched a season-high 19 points against Niagara and pulled down a season's best 12 rebounds against Manhattan
- Prepped at First Love Christian Academy in Washington, Pennsylvania, and averaged 13.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game as a senior
- Also played high school basketball for Earl Haig Secondary in his native Canada and competed for Canada Elite on the Under Armour AAU circuit, winning a gold medal as Team Canada posted a 6-1 record at the 2017 FIBA U19 World Cup in Egypt

- Has appeared in 64 games in his three collegiate campaigns at Arkansas and UT Arlington
- Spent the last two years with the Mavericks and averaged 6.8 points and 3.1 rebounds in 47 games, shooting 34.0-percent from the floor, 33.0-percent from behind the arc and 76.0-percent at the free-throw lin
- Last year, he tallied 7.4 points and scored in double figures in nine of his 26 games
- Posted his first career double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds against Little Rock and had a season-high 17 points versus Louisiana, a game in which he earned #5 on SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays on Jan. 15 for an and-one dunk
- In 2019-20, he played in all 32 games with 21 starts and recorded 6.3 points and 3.5 rebounds, reaching double-figures in scoring 11 times, grabbing five or more rebounds on 10 occasions and coming away with at least one steal in 15 contests
- Netted a career-high 18 points at eventual Sun Belt Regular Season Champion Little Rock, connecting on a career-best four 3-pointers
- Had 14 points hitting three 3-pointers at #14 Oregon and scored 14 points with a career-best seven boards versus UC Santa Barbara (Dec. 7) … added a career-best seven rebounds in that contest
- Saw limited minutes in seven games at Arkansas as a freshman
- Ranked as the 11th-best prospect in Texas, the 37th-best shooting guard in the country and just outside the top-100 national rankings coming out of high school, according to Rivals.com
Coach Davis on Phillips - "He is a guy who we believe can handle the ball and shoot and he was a top guy coming out of high school who originally signed with Arkansas, a SEC school."
Jeramy Shaw * G * 6-6 * 205 * St. Louis, Mo.* Valley Park * North Central Missouri College
- A junior college transfer who was named a NJCAA Second Team All-American last season
- Averaged 16.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists, shooting 55.9-percent from the field, 34.6-percent from three and 72.4-percent from the line
- Scored in double figures in 21 of his 25 games, including a career-high 31 points at Southeast Community College, 29 points versus Metropolitan Community College, 28 points against State Fair Community College and 27 points against Kansas City Kansas Community College
- As a freshman, he averaged 9.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game, shooting 52.7-percent from the floor
- A two-time All-Conference player as a prep in high school, where he averaged 15.6 points per game as a senior
Coach Davis on Shaw - "He had a great career at the junior college level and is someone that can score in a variety of ways."
The Titans just finished summer workouts and will now have some time off before the fall semester starts in late August. The non-conference schedule will also be released in the near future.
