Silver Turns Away Career High As Late Offensive Effort Comes Up Short At NKU

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (9/16/21) -- Sophomore Marisa Silver stopped a career-high 11 shots and the Titans made a late run with a pair of shots on net in the final 10 minutes as the University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at NKU on Thursday night.

It was the Horizon League opener for both schools.

Silver made three saves in the first half as NKU (3-3-2, 1-0-0 HL) took a 1-0 lead late in the first off a corner kick goal.

In the second half, Silver kept the red, white and blue in the game with eight more saves, including a couple in the opening five minutes and another pair with just four minutes left in the contest.

Detroit Mercy (1-7-0, 0-1-0 HL) nearly tied the game in the last 10 minutes. In the 84th minute, the Titans were able to clear the ball and break down the NKU defense, but junior Taylor Stanley's attempt was saved.

A couple of minutes later, freshman Erica Leinweber was able to cut inside and beat the defense with a laser to the left of the goal that was turned away and Stanley's rebound attempt went high.

The Titans will be back in action on Sunday when the Titans host Cleveland State at 1:00 p.m. in Pups on the Pitch day as all fans are encouraged to bring their dogs to Titan Field.
