DAYTON, Ohio (9/2/2021) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team remained unbeaten after the first three matches of the season following a 0-0 draw with Incarnate Word in the opening match of the Dayton Classic, played from Baujan Field on the campus of Dayton.
The Titans (1-0-2) allowed just one shot on goal in the match to record their first shutout of the season. Freshman goalkeeper
Jonathan Kliewer posted his first collegiate shutout in the match, making one save.
Detroit Mercy had the shot edge in the match, 14-13, including posting two shots during the second overtime period. Sophomore defender
Jackson Towers had a look on net during the second overtime in the 107th minute, but his look on frame was saved.
Senior defender
Jake Poorman had three shots and one shot on net for the Titans, while senior
Kyle Bandyk also added three shots. Freshman
Eddie Villagomez added two shots in his first collegiate start for the red, white and blue. Nine Titans had at least one shot in the match.
