Julie Ann Piechocki scored her third goal in the past four games and freshman goalkeeper
Marisa Silver made a career-high eight saves, but the University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team fell 2-1 to host Middle Tennessee State on Thursday evening.
Piechocki gave the Titans a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute of the match as she fired in a shot off a feed from freshman
Erica Leinweber. Piechocki's goal was her third of the 2021 fall season and 12th in her Detroit Mercy career.
Middle Tennessee would even the score just minutes later in the 35th minute of the contest and that 1-1 score would stand until the halftime break. Junior forward
Taylor Stanley, making her Titan debut, fired three shots on goal in the opening 20Â minutes, with her second shot a tricky shot that the Middle Tennessee keeper made a strong save on.
The Blue Raiders would take the lead early in the second half, scoring in the 48th minute as the marker proved to be the game-winning goal.
Silver made a career-best eight saves in the match, including six saves in the second half. Silver, making her second appearance of the season, has posted 14 saves through two matches for the Titans.
Stanley led Detroit Mercy with four shots total, three of them on goal. Piechocki added three shots for the Titans, two on frame. The red, white and blue had 10 shots as a team, five on goal.
