Jonathan Kliewer made three saves as the University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team went on the road and blanked IUPUI, 2-0, in Horizon League action on Saturday.
Pliakos also added an assist and Kliewer stopped a few IUPUI (2-4-1, 1-2-0 HL) opportunities intercepting crosses and corner kicks to help stifle the Jaguars to register his second shutout of the season.
The Titans (2-3-2, 1-1-0 HL) outshot IUPUI, 13-8, with five on frame, and had a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks as they controlled the tempo for much of the contest.
The game was scoreless until the 20th minute when Pliakos sent a pass upfront to Powder, who was able to get past his defender and beat the goalie for his first score of the season.
The Titans added another goal in the 56th minute as Pliakos was able to line up a shot and push it past the keeper for his second tally of the year to go with his second assist of the season earlier in the contest.
Kliewer made two saves in the first 15 minutes and would later get his hands on two corners and two long crosses in the box in the first half as the Titans outshot IUPUI, 9-3.
In the second half, Kliewer was able to turn away an attempt in the 68th minute.
Detroit Mercy will return home for two straight games starting on Wednesday, Sept. 29, as the red, white and blue host Green Bay in a 2:00 p.m. match at Titan Field and concluding the week on Homecoming as the Titans host Oakland on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 7:00 p.m.
