DETROIT (9/28/2021) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team played a 2-2 double-overtime thriller with Robert Morris on Sunday from Titan Field.
The Titans (1-9-1, 0-3-1 HL) got on the board first with junior forward
Taylor Stanley netting her first of the season. Detroit Mercy won the ball at midfield and was sent forward, where she collected it and got by a defender before finding the back of the net.
The Colonials (4-6-2, 0-2-2 HL) would collect a goal in the final seconds of the half to even the score heading into halftime.
Detroit Mercy earned a 2-1 advantage 15 minutes into the second half on the second goal of the year by sophomore forward
Tia Jokic. Senior midfielder
Julie Ann Piechocki assisted on the goal; her second assist in as many games, as she started the offense with a shot that was saved, and then Jokic came in to finish it off.
Robert Morris would respond just a few minutes later to level it at two.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Marisa Silver made three saves and played the first 72 minutes before departing with an injury. In her absence, sophomore goalkeeper
Jazmine Scott played brilliantly the rest of the way, turning away five shots to keep the Colonials at bay.
The Titans took five shots during the overtime sessions, totaling 19 for the game to outpace the Colonials. Freshman forward
Erica Leinweber led Detroit Mercy in shots with six, while Piechocki and Stanley added four shots each.
The red, white, and blue will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 2, as they travel to Green Bay to take on the Phoenix in a 5:00 p.m. affair on ESPN+.
