Davis, Titans Explode Down The Stretch To Claw Past Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (1/22/2022) -- Senior Antoine Davis scored 30 points and ignited a game-winning 17-0 run and the Titan defense limited Milwaukee to just five field goals in the second half as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team swept the season series with the Panthers with a 71-58 road victory on Saturday.

Davis netted his 30 points - 21 in the second half - on 12-of-23 shooting with four 3-pointers to go with five assists, three rebounds and three steals. He is now 29th in NCAA history with 383 career triples and has 2,435 points.

Junior Madut Akec had 11 points with six rebounds and senior Willy Isiani netted nine points with six boards.

The Titans (6-10, 4-3 HL) had an early six-point lead in the first half and led by five, 33-28, with 2:39 left when Milwaukee (7-13, 5-6 HL) went on an 11-0 run to go up by six, 39-33, just 1:20 into the second.

That is when the Titan defense took over forcing Milwaukee into 0-of-17 from the field with six turnovers in the next 11 minutes to knot the game at 46-all with 7:51 left.

Milwaukee then led by three, 54-52, with 4:35 remaining when the Titans went on their big run. Davis started it with seven-straight points as his initial triple put the red, white and blue ahead, 55-54. He then had back-to-back baskets before getting the ball to Isiani, who buried a three for a 62-54 lead with 2:21 left.

Davis would nail another three to put the lead into double digits and the defense held strong again as the Panthers were 1-of-6 with four turnovers in the final five minutes of the contest.

The Titans shot 48.1% overall and 46.2% from three (12-of-26), while holding Milwaukee to 33.3% shooting and just 5-of-29 (17.2%) in the second half.

Detroit Mercy will now return home for two games as the red, white and blue host UIC on Thursday, Jan. 27, at 7:00 p.m. and IUPUI on Jan. 29 at 2:00 p.m.
