The Titans in a huddle

Men's Basketball

@DetroitMBB Welcomes UM-Dearborn On Monday

DETROIT (1/30/2022) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team will be in action on Monday as the Titans host the University of Michigan-Dearborn on historic Dick Vitale Court in Calihan Hall.

Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and the Watch ESPN App with Jeremy Otto and Earl Cureton on the call. Fans can also listen to the action on the radio on WLQV 92.7 FM & 1500 AM FaithTalk Detroit with the Voice of Detroit Mercy basketball Dan Hasty.

Fans with tickets to the recently-canceled IUPUI game can use those for Monday's contest. At the game, the Titans will honor this year's Titan Reggie Spirit Of Detroit Mercy Award winner at halftime.

Fans should also take note of the updated University policy which requires surgical masks or higher-grade face masks must be worn on all Detroit Mercy campuses. This policy applies to all students, employees, and visitors to our campuses. The best protection is offered by N95, KN95, KF-94, or equivalent masks. A critical benefit of these masks is that they are more structured than other masks; this means they don't slip and are easier to wear properly. Disposable surgical masks that fit snugly over your nose, mouth, and chin are also acceptable. The CDC recommends wearing a cloth mask on top of a surgical mask to ensure a better fit. Per CDC guidelines, masks with exhalation vents, scarfs, and face shields are not acceptable. All masks must cover your nose, mouth, and chin without gaps. Nose wires, such as in a surgical mask and some cloth masks, help offer an even better fit.

The game was added after Saturday's game against IUPUI was canceled due to health and safety protocols in the Jaguars' program. With the Titans already having five games canceled and deemed a no-contest on the year and NCAA rules on minimum games, the Titans were put in a position to add a game.

NCAA guidelines require an institution to have a minimum of 25 games to qualify for team selection as an at-large or automatic qualifier in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Basketball Championships. A maximum of four games can be played against non-Division I institutions. Institutions may count one conference tournament game in which the team participates towards their minimum number of required games.

The Titans are 7-10 overall on the season and have now won 11 in a row at home dating back to last season, the longest home winning streak since the red, white and blue won 12 in a row with three to end the 2014-15 season and the first nine home games of 2015-16.

This will be the first time under head coach Mike Davis that the Titans will play a non-Division I opponent as the last time was in the 2017-18 season when Detroit Mercy defeated UM-Dearborn, 105-82, and Siena Heights, 131-69.

Detroit Mercy has won all three career meetings against the Wolverines, who are a member of the NAIA and the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC).

The Titans have won 32 in a row against non-DI schools and with the last loss against Wayne State in 1993. In its history, Detroit Mercy is 258-67 (.791) all-time against non-DI foes.

Following the game, the Titans will hit the road for five-straight games starting with a southern trip to take on Wright State on Thursday and NKU on Saturday.
