Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Titans Thump UM-Dearborn

DETROIT (1/31/2022) -- All nine Titan players scored and six were in double figures on the night as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team dominated in a 96-41 victory over the University of Michigan-Dearborn on Monday evening at Calihan Hall.

The game was added after Saturday's game against IUPUI was canceled due to health and safety protocols in the Jaguars' program

Detroit Mercy (8-10, 5-3 HL) was led by graduate senior Kevin McAdoo, who scored a game-high 19 points and recorded a career-high with eight assists, five rebounds and three steals.

Graduate senior DJ Harvey totaled a season-high 15 points and pulled down a game-best and career-tying 12 rebounds. Senior Matt Johnson added 15 points, seven rebounds and a career-best six assists and junior Madut Akec posted 15 points and five boards.

Junior Jeramy Shaw netted a season-high 10 points and five rebounds and freshman Bryon Ottrix Jr. made his collegiate debut and had 11 points.

The Titans saw Michigan-Dearborn (3-21, 1-12 WHAC) hang in there early as the red, white and blue led by just four, 14-10, seven minutes in. That is when the Titans started to turn it on as graduate senior Buay Koka started it with two-straight baskets. McAdoo and Johnson then hit back-to-back 3-pointers for a 24-12 lead.

Detroit Mercy would later go on a 13-3 run to open a 20-point advantage, 40-20, late in the first half.  Harvey had a couple of triples and McAdoo also drained one from the outside. McAdoo would hit again at the end of the half for a 43-22 lead at the break.

In the second half, a 13-2 spurt saw the Titans increase their lead to 65-30, at the 12:22 mark as McAdoo was the catalyst with a three-pointer and had seven points in that span.

The Titans would later add a 17-4 charge with Ottrix Jr. scoring seven points as the game was never in doubt.

Detroit Mercy shot 49.3% in the game and was 16-of-32 from the outside, outrebounding the Wolverines 45-28 and recording 21 assists, tying a season-high.

Koka ended with five points, four rebounds and two blocks, while sophomore Kyle LeGreair tallied four points, a career-high five assists and two steals.

The Titans will now get back into Horizon League play with a road trip this week as they play Wright State on Thursday and NKU on Saturday.
