ROCHESTER, Mich. (10/1/22) - Junior
Samory Powder had nine total shots with two on goal while sophomores
Stephen Kosto,
Daniel Larsson and
Fisher Hudak and freshman
Spencer Powe each accounted for five total shots on goal but Detroit Mercy could not erase an early deficit as the Titans dropped their first #HLMSOC match of the season with a 1-0 setback at arch-rival Oakland in Metro Series action on Saturday night.
Oakland (2-6-2, 2-0-1 HL) wasted little time getting on the board as Doug Hainer scored on a long shot just a 1:32 into the match. Detroit Mercy (1-4-4, 0-1-3 HL) was busy playing catch-up for the rest of the game. Freshman
Guershom Sylvain and Powder proved to be a match-up problem for the Golden Grizzlies in the first half as they got a few quality chances but could not get the equalizer.
In the 69th minute, Hudak had the Titans' best chance as he got inside the box and sent in a low shot that Oakland goalkeeper Micheal Sly Jr. dove forward and knocked the ball away to preserve the lead.
Just like in their previous match at Green Bay, Detroit Mercy had a corner kick opportunity in the final seconds of the game. However, deja-vu was not on Detroit Mercy's side this time as Powder's cross was headed outside the box back to him but he was not able to connect on a final shot as time expired.
