MACOMB, Ill. (10/18/19) - Junior
Samory Powder got the equalizer in the 64th minute tying him for the team-leading fourth goal on the season as Detroit Mercy played Western Illinois to a 1-1 draw in non-conference on Tuesday afternoon at John MacKenzie Alumni Field. With the draw, the Titans are unbeaten over their last four matches.
Redshirt sophomore
Jonathan Kliewer made four saves in goal and held Western Illinois (1-6-6) scoreless in the second half.
Down 1-0 in the second half, Detroit Mercy (3-5-5) held a commanding 11-2 lead in corner kick opportunities so it seemed only a matter of time before the Titans would cash in on the 12th attempt. Powder stepped up and sent in a long cross into the box that looked to get pushed towards the goal by the wind. The ball hit the ground right between traffic in the front of the goal mouth and bounced past WIU goalkeeper Alex Flowers into the back corner of the net for the equalizer.
Detroit Mercy resumes Horizon League play at Robert Morris on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 2 p.m.
