DETROIT (11/29/2022) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team will have three former Titans suit up when the National Lacrosse League opens up this weekend.

Mason Kamminga was drafted in the second round, 27th overall, by the New York Riptide and will be a defenseman with the club.

He saw action in 27 games with seven starts as a Titan from 2019-22, playing on offense and defense, and tallied 29 ground balls, 21 faceoff wins, six caused turnovers and scoring a goal. His only marker came as a defenseman at home against Robert Morris in 2020. He also played for the Six Nations Chiefs in the MSL Senior A league, posting seven points on two goals and five assists.

Joel Matthews is back in the league for his fifth professional season and second with the Buffalo Bandits. He was originally drafted in the 4th round, 31st overall, in 2012 by Buffalo and played one season there before playing the next three seasons with the Rochester Knighthawks from 2015-17. He has seven goals and 11 assists in his four professional campaigns.

Matthews was with the Titans from 2010-2012, seeing action in 25 games and posting 61 goals and 26 assists for 87 points. As a freshman, he was selected All-MAAC Second Team after leading the squad with 37 goals and 48 points, fifth and sixth in the conference, respectively, and ended the year 14th in the country with 2.47 goals per game and 36th totaling 3.2 points per game. His 37 markers also led all Division I freshmen on the year.

Kyle Waters is in his second year with the Calgary Roughnecks after the organization drafted him in the first round, 6th overall, in 2021. He registered seven goals and 10 assists as a rookie in the NLL last year.

He played in five games for the Titans in the Covid year of 2020 and notched 11 goals and five assists. He scored five goals and six points in his Titan debut at Jacksonville.

The NLL is North America's premier professional lacrosse league. Founded in 1986, the NLL ranks third in average attendance for pro indoor sports worldwide, behind only the NHL and NBA.
