Davis Eclipses 2,500 Points As Titans Stomp Colonials

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (2/9/2022) -- Senior Antoine Davis put his name in the top 75 in NCAA history in scoring and the Titans used two big runs to cruise to a victory as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team dominated Robert Morris on the road, 79-62, on Wednesday night.

Davis finished with a game-high 26 points to go with a team-high five assists and three rebounds, shooting 9-of-22 from the field with six 3-pointers. He netted 18 in the first half as his final triple of the period put him at 2,500 career points and he now has 2,508 in his career, 70th in NCAA history. It was the fourth time that a student-athlete has posted 2,500 with his dad as head coach following Pete Maravich (Press Maravich), Doug McDermott (Greg McDermott) and Allan Houston (Wade Houston).

Meanwhile, his six 3-pointers has him at 398 in his career, two shy of the top 20 in that statistic.

Graduate senior DJ Harvey had 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds, hitting six of his 12 shots, while junior Noah Waterman returned and added 11 points and three boards.

The Titans (10-11, 7-4 HL) led for most of the game, but were down early as Robert Morris (6-18, 4-11 HL) built a 16-9 six minutes in. Detroit Mercy took that away going on an 18-2 spurt with the defense holding RMU to 1-of-7 shooting with five turnovers as the Titans climbed on top, 27-18, the last six courtesy of 3-pointers from senior Matt Johnson and Harvey.

Davis hit a three and Harvey had a basket for the first double-digit lead at 34-23 and later on, Davis helped build a 12-point advantage as his triple for 18-first half points and 2,500 in his career gave the red, white and blue a 37-25 advantage with a little less than a minute to go.

In the second half, a layup from senior Willy Isiani and a three by Harvey had the squad up by 16, 47-31. The Titans would go on and end all dreams of a Colonials' comeback with a 13-0 run to increase their lead to 21, 63-42, with seven minutes left to go.

Johnson scored nine points with four rebounds, four assists and two steals and Isiani scored five points and grabbed seven boards.

Detroit Mercy over 50.0% for the second-straight game ending at 50.9% with 13 of its 27 field goals from distance and owned the glass to the tune of a 35-22 advantage.

The Titans will now head to Youngstown State the battle the Penguins on Friday night with opening tip set for 7:00 p.m.
