Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Titans Rally Falls Short At Marquette

MILWAUKEE (3/5/2022) -- Sophomore Will Edell posted his first career hat trick and redshirt freshman Jakob Hemme made 15 saves in net, but the Titans could not recover from an early first-half deficit as the University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team was downed, 13-7, at Jesuit-rival Marquette on Saturday afternoon.

Edell also had two ground balls. Junior Luke Majick and freshmen Aidan Bishop, Nolan Graalman and Will Marshall all had goals and graduate senior Brett Erskine handed out two assists.

Graduate senior Paul Manuszak registered three caused turnovers and seven ground balls and sophomore Noah Martin had a caused turnover and a career-high three GB's.

The Titans (0-4) scored first as Edell beat the keeper off a great look from senior Ryan Figueiras a little more than a minute into the contest.

Bishop would tie the score at 2-2 with an unassisted strike at the 5:32 mark and Edell took a pass from junior Ryan Birney and ticked the twice for a 3-3 game with 4:09 remaining in the first.

Marquette (2-3) would jump out to a 10-3 lead at the break, but back-to-back goals by Edell and Graalman cut the deficit in half early in the third. The Titans would trail by five again late in the period as a save from Hemme lead to a fast break and Marshall was able to streak down the field and beat the keeper for a 11-6 contest.

The Titans would trail by five again at 12-7 as Erskine set up Majick for a score with just 5:16 left.

The Titans were outshot 46-38, but owned a 26-16 advantage in the second half. The defense also saw Marquette commit 22 turnovers - 11 were caused - and held the Golden Eagles to just 1-of-5 with the extra-man attack.

The red, white and blue will now return home to host VMI next Saturday, March 12, at Noon and the game will be held at Seaholm High School in Birmingham, Michigan.
