Olivia Warrington tossed 2.1 innings allowing no hits, no runs with three strikeouts in relief as Detroit Mercy came up short 4-1 at Gardner-Webb on Tuesday. The second game of doubleheader was canceled in the second inning due to rainy weather conditions.
Warrington entered the game in the fourth inning in relief of freshman
Chloe Spitzer and got out of a bases-loaded jam. She also struck out the side in the fifth inning. Graduate student
Liz Murphy picked up the loss for the Titans in the circle going 3.0 innings with two strikeouts.
Game 1:
• Heilner recoded the Titans' first hit of the game in the first inning
• Mortensen hit a fly ball that the left fielder couldn't handle which allowed Heilner to score
• Murphy got out of a jam in the circle as Gardner-Webb left the bases juiced in the bottom of the second inning
• Guthier posted Detroit Mercy's second hit of the game in the third inning
• The Titans left two runners stranded in the top of the fourth inning
• Gardner-Webb took lead with pair of runs in the bottom of the third and added another pair of runs off two RBI doubles in the bottom of the fourth
Game 2:
• After a scoreless first inning, GW broke through scoring five runs with two outs in the bottom of the second inning
• Due to rainy weather conditions, the game was officially cancelled in the second inning
The Titans continue their road swing with a doubleheader at North Carolina A&T on Wednesday, Mar. 9 starting at 12 p.m.
