Akyia Baker had quite the break-out performance scoring a career-high 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting and 3-for-4 from the free throw line with a 3-pointer while junior
Irene Murua posted a team-high 17 points (13 in the second half) on 7-of-10 shooting as Detroit Mercy scored 24 third-quarter points to rally from 23 points down cutting the deficit to nine points heading into the fourth quarter. However, it was not enough as Northern Kentucky outscored the Titans 21-6 in the final frame for a 75-51 #HLWBB win on Sunday afternoon at Calihan Hall.

Myonna Hooper chipped in with seven points while matching a career-best five assists. Sophomore
Emma Trawally Porta paced the Detroit Mercy (3-14, 1-7 HL) on the glass grabbing seven rebounds.
Both teams played about even in the first quarter as Northern Kentucky (10-7, 4-4 HL) held a 17-13 advantage. The Norse defensive pressure got to the Titans as they held UDM to only eight points while scoring 18 to take a 35-21 lead into halftime. Baker paced the Titans with 11 points. NKU did a lot of damage from the free-throw line going 13-for-19 while Detroit Mercy only got to the charity stripe once.
After NKU opened the third quarter with a 5-0 spurt, Detroit Mercy responded with a 13-0 run to cut the deficit, which was once 23 points, down to 10 points at 45-35 with four minutes to go in the frame. Hooper added a 3-pointer just before the buzzer bringing the Titans within nine points, 54-45, heading into the fourth quarter.
In the final frame, NKU's offense got back on track going 7-for-13 (53.8%) from the field while their defense once again bothered the Titans who only shot 3-for-19 from the floor down the stretch.
Detroit Mercy's five-game #HLWBB home stand concludes with a Metro Series showdown against arch-rival Oakland on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m.
