DETROIT (10-14-23) - Freshman
Drew Pierson came up clutch scoring a second-half equalizer propelling Detroit Mercy to a 1-1 draw against Purdue Fort Wayne in #HLMSOC action on Saturday night at Titan Field.
Sophomore
Quinn Tews made four saves to preserve the tie for the Titans (3-7-3, 2-2-2 HL).
"We showed grit and toughness tonight to battle back and secure an important point from a conference opponent that is at the top end of the table," said Head Coach
Nate Kopunek.
"They capitalized on our slow start in the first half but we played better in the second half showing some of the football we know we can play and were able to tie it up," added Kopunek. "Our bench continues to be a great strength of ours as they were big again helping secure the point. We now turn our eyes to the next important conference game at Wright State."
PFW (6-4-2, 3-2-1 HL) struck first in the 25th minute off a corner kick set piece to take a 1-0 lead.
In the 73rd minute of the second half, senior
Saeid Jannoun made an aggressive move inside the box and drew a foul resulting in a penalty kick. Pierson set up and struck the penalty kick which PFW goalkeeper Danny Salazer made the save. However, the rebound came right back to Pierson who sprinted in and put the rebound home for his second goal of the season tying the game at 1-1.
In the final minute of the game, UDM had a golden opportunity to claw out a win as graduate student
Matthew Andres found some empty space and got the ball at the top of the box. He turned and fired a shot but just missed the upper 90.
UDM travels to Wright State for an #HLMSOC match on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m.
