DETROIT (10-15-23) - Detroit Mercy's big three offensive weapons came to play as sophomores
Abbey Lodato and
Sophia Blankenship and senior
Karsen Murray each scored their team-best fifth goal of the season rallying the Titans to a 3-1 win over Cleveland State on Sunday afternoon. With the win, UDM remains undefeated in #HLWSOC play at Titan Field.
Senior
Gabby Ketola also posted her team-best fifth assist of the season while Lodato added her second. Senior
Jazmine Scott picked up her sixth win making four saves.
CSU (3-10-3, 0-6-3 HL) wasted little time taking a 1-0 lead just three minutes into the game.
In the 36th minute, senior
Erica Toupin drew a foul inside the box. Murray calmly stepped up and buried the penalty kick equalizer in the lower left corner.
Detroit Mercy (6-7-3, 4-4 HL) was not done as Lodato got the ball just past mid-field and slipped a pass down the right side to Ketola who took the ball in space near the sideline. She then delivered a cross inside the box where Blankenship connected on a beautiful volley off her right foot past CSU goalkeeper Liv Fain giving the Titans a 2-1 lead in the 65th minute.
Lodato then added an insurance goal in the 81st minute as she bent in a pin-point free-kick over the defensive wall into the lower left corner moving UDM ahead 3-1.
