DETROIT (10/26/2023) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's cross country team will begin its postseason run as the Titans head to Ohio on Saturday for this year's Horizon League Championship.

The 8k race, hosted by Wright State, will start at 11:00 a.m., at Fairborn Community Park. Tickets to the event are $5 and Horizon League students get in free with a valid student ID.

The men were 10th last year as junior Josiah Burr topped the team, taking 32nd in 26:08. 

Sophomore Josh Otten has topped the team in all four races on the year, lowering his 8k time in each of the last three races. Otten's last 8k was at Canisius, where he clocked a 24:27, the 12th fastest 8k time in school history and the best by a Titan since 2018. He did not run in last year's league championship. 

Freshman Christopher Russelburg has lowered his 8k time in every race to a season-best 25:40 at Canisius, while junior Kenny Lashaway has the third-best 8k time of the year at 26:14 at Canisius. 

The Titans have claimed two team championships in back-to-back fashion, totaling the low score in 2013 and 2014. 

Detroit Mercy has also produced an All-HL runner in eight of the last 11 seasons, with one individual winner as Ben Kendell crossed the line first in 2018. He was also runner-up in 2015 and 2016, while Colin Creagh earned second in 2014.
