UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa (10-25-23) - Freshmen
Josh Copeland and
Drew Pierson along with junior
Baldeep Gill each recorded a shot on goal as Detroit Mercy dropped a 3-0 non-conference match at Penn State on Wednesday night at Jeffery Field.
"We knew this one was going to be a tough game as Penn State has a lot of threats and is a quality team. However, I'm proud of our boys," said Head Coach
Nate Kopunek. "We had a good game plan in place and were unlucky to concede early, but, I liked how the team didn't put their heads down and kept plugging away which our staff was very pleased to see."
"At the end of the day, we obviously came up short but this was a game we can learn a lot from to help us finish on a strong note," added Kopunek. "We now can turn our heads to the next very important Horizon League battle at home against Robert Morris on Senior Day."
Sophomores
Guershom Sylvain and
Zander Crooks also recorded a shot to round out the Titans' (4-8-3) five total shots in the match. Sophomore
Quinn Tews recorded two saves in goal.
Penn State (9-3-3) got on the board early just five minutes into the game. UDM battled keeping the deficit at one goal until the Nittany Lions added another tally in the 49th minute to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
PSU then struck again in the 52nd minute adding an insurance goal to open the second half for a 3-0 lead and never looked back.
UDM returns to Titan Field for a pivotal #HLMSOC match against RMU on Senior Day Saturday, Oct. 28 at 3 p.m.
