DETROIT (10/9/2023) -- Former University of Detroit Mercy women's golfer Sarah Montone '16 and longtime fan and athletic donor Gary Priestap '66 were honored over the weekend by the Detroit Mercy College of Business Administration. 

Overall, five College of Business Administration (CBA) graduates and leaders in their professional careers were honored during the annual Business Leadership Awards, on Sunday, Oct. 8. 

CBA annually recognizes exemplary alumni who demonstrate professional success, outstanding contributions to society and embody Jesuit and Mercy values. The two categories are Lifetime Achievement, which are inducted into the College's Hall of Honor, and Rising Stars.

This year's honorees include:

Lifetime Achievement Awards:
  • Mark Bealin '84, Managing Director of UHY
  • Gary Priestap '66, '71, '98, Founder of Priestap Financial
  • E'Lois Thomas '00, President of Solutions for Energy Efficient Logistics (SEEL)

Rising Star Awards:
  • Noor Al-Khafaji '17, '23, Senior Asset Manager for City of Detroit
  • Sarah Montone '16, '18, Senior Project Manager for NextEra Energy

Priestap earned his Bachelor of Science in Business, Master of Business Administration, and Juris Doctor from the University and has given generously to several significant projects in athletics over the years. He and his wife, Deborah Priestap DDS '86, also established the Priestap Family Endowed Scholarship Fund. 

Montone - who graduated with a Master of Business Administration - played in 30 events in her four-year career as a Titan from 2013-17. She tallied an 84.37 mark in 66 rounds out on the links, 11th in school history when she graduated, with four top-20 efforts. 

She was a four-time member of the Detroit Mercy Athletic Director's Honor Roll and a three-time member of the Horizon League Fall and Spring Academic Honor Rolls. She was also named an All-American Scholar by the Women's Golf Coaches Association as a sophomore, junior and senior and earned Horizon League All-Academic Team honors as a junior and senior.
