Detroit Mercy Falls at Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. (11-16-23) - Sophomore Myonna Hooper also added nine points on 4-for-6 shooting with two assists and five rebounds while senior Jada Moorehead scored nine points on 4-for-5 shooting as Detroit Mercy fell 105-44 at Michigan State on Thursday night at the Breslin Center.

Makayla Jackson chipped in with six points, two assists and two blocks for second consecutive game while senior Lucia Fleta Robles added five points. Junior Latifa Amzil  connected on her first a 3-point bucket of the season. Freshman Kamari Forrest scored two points with a steal and a rebound in her Titan debut. 

Detroit Mercy (2-2) hung tough with the Spartans in the first quarter as sophomore Amaya Burch hit the first 3-pointer giving the Titans their only lead of the game at 5-4. After falling behind 10-5, UDM went on a 6-2 spurt to pull back within a point at 12-11. MSU moved ahead again at 17-13 until a jumper by Moorehead and a triple by Hooper tied the game at 17-17. Abbey Kimball hit a three-pointer giving the Spartans a 20-17 lead at the end of the quarter.

The Titans kept the game within three points at 24-21 two minutes into the second quarter before MSU went on a 17-4 run to move ahead 41-25. Moorehead made a jumper to stop the run with 14 seconds left before the Spartans banked in a 3-pointer at the buzzer to cap off a 27-6 spurt to take a commanding 53-27 lead at the half.

It was all MSU in the second half as the Spartans shot a blistering 10-12 (83.3%) from the field in the third quarter and 9-for-12 (75.0%) in the fourth quarter to close out the win.

For the game, MSU shot a school record 39-for-55 (70.9%) from the field while hitting 14-for-19 (73.7) from 3-point range.

Detroit Mercy continues their six-game road swing at Dayon on Thursday, Nov. 18 at 12 p.m.
