DETROIT, Mich. (12-3-23) - Senior
Annika Corcoran made her first game back in a Titan uniform a memorable one as she was one of five players to score in double figures with 13 points on 4-for-8 shooting, 3-for-7 from 3-point range and 2-for-2 from the free throw line to lead Detroit Mercy to a 66-55 win over arch-rival Oakland on Sunday afternoon at Calihan Hall. The victory snapped a 12-game skid against the Golden Grizzlies and was the Titans' first #MetroSeries win since 2017. It also marked the first time UDM has opened the season with two consecutive #HLWBB wins since the 2016-17 season.

The Titans jumped out to an 11-2 lead to open the game. Oakland responded with a 9-0 run to tie the game at 11-11. UDM then went on a run of their own as Burch hit a layup to cap off a 9-1 run to end the first with a 20-12 lead.
The second half was all about defense as UDM held Oakland only to six points but only scored nine to take a 29-18 lead into the locker room. The 18 points were the fewest the Titans have allowed for a half since holding Robert Morris to 16 points last season.
UDM increased their lead to 34-18 to open the third quarter off a Trawally Porta layup. Oakland responded once again in a major way going on a 16-2 run to trail by only two points, 36-34, at the 2:44 mark. Murua hit a layup followed by four straight Burch free throws which moved the Titans ahead by seven points, 42-35, to end the frame.
After a Murua layup, Corcoran came up big hitting back-back triples to open the fourth quarter. Burch was then fouled on a 3-point attempt and made two free throws to cap off a 10-2 run as Detroit Mercy took a commanding 15-point lead at 52-37 with 5:55 remaining. The Golden Grizzlies clawed their way back to a nine-point deficit, 60-51, with 1:34 to go but Gilmore made a slashing drive to the bucket connecting on a layup to move the Titans back up by 11 points. OU scored the next four points to pull within eight with 29 seconds left but UMD was able to seal the deal from the free throw line to lock down their second league win.
