Detroit Mercy (3-20, 1-13 HL) was able to handle Milwaukee's (8-14, 6-8 HL) early defensive pressure and take a 15-11 lead after the first quarter.
The Titans were able to extend their lead to 19-11 to open the second quarter. However, the Panthers outscored UDM 14-7 down the stretch and ended the frame on a 9-2 run to trim the Titans' lead to one point, 26-25, at the half.
The Panthers extended their lead to seven points at 43-36 with 3:02 left in the third quarter before the Titans outscored Milwaukee at a 9-6 clip to pull within three points, 48-45, going into the fourth quarter.
Missed opportunities down the stretch in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference for Detroit Mercy. Milwaukee once again pushed their lead back up to nine points, 55-46, with a 7-1 run in the fourth. UDM responded with a 9-2 run to pull within two points at 57-55 with 3:41 remaining. After a Milwaukee free throw, the Titans had the ball with a chance to tie but couldn't convert. The Panthers added another bucket before McNeal hit a jumper cutting the deficit to three, 60-57, with 1:54 left. After a defensive stop, the Titans once again had a chance to tie the game our pull within a point but could not get on the board with just 11 tics left on the clock. The Panthers then sunk a pair of free throws with nine seconds left to ice the game.
Detroit Mercy travels to Robert Morris on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m.
