DETROIT (3/2/2023) -- Sophomore
Jakob Hemme made 16 saves and the Titans led at the half, but just couldn't hold on as the University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team dropped a 10-5 decision to visiting Marquette on Thursday afternoon.
The game was originally scheduled for Saturday but was moved up due to the weather forecast.
Senior
Ryan Birney scored two goals and senior
Ivan Progar, sophomore
Nolan Graalman and freshman
Ayden Snow each had a marker. Redshirt freshman
Eoghan Mullett posted two caused turnovers and four ground balls, junior
Kyle Loken had two caused turnovers and three ground balls and senior
David Beacom had two caused turnovers and two GB's.
Hemme had four stops in the first, but Marquette (3-2) led 1-0 after one.
In the second off a Hemme save, Graalman tied it at 1-1 off a pass from sophomore
Chase Mahabir nearly four minutes in. The Titans won the next faceoff and Progar ripped one past the keeper for a 2-1 lead.
Detroit Mercy (0-3) would take a 4-2 lead into the break as freshman
Drew Kessenich came up with a caused turnover and Birney beat the keeper with 1:28 remaining and then another save from Hemme had the Titans on the attack again as Snow fired one in with just four ticks left.
The Golden Eagles then went on an 8-0 run to take a 10-4 lead before Birney notched his second late in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore
Billy Hart was 9-of-19 in faceoffs with three ground balls and sophomore
Joey Schmaltz picked up three GB's. Sophomore
Aidan Bishop also had three loose pick ups.
The Titans will have one more non-conference game before the ASUN slate begins, as the red, white and blue will visit Ohio State on March 14.
