Davis Named To John R. Wooden Wooden Award National Ballot

Antoine Davis was named to another major award final ballot.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (3/4/2023) -- University of Detroit Mercy graduate senior Antoine Davis cleared one of the last hurdles in regards to one of the biggest awards in college basketball as he was named to the National Ballot for the John R. Wooden Award.

The Los Angeles Athletic Club announced its 2023 Men's National Ballot for the John R. Wooden Award® presented by Wendy's® today on ESPN College GameDay. Selected by the Wooden Award National Advisory Board, the National Ballot consists of 15 student-athletes who are candidates for the Wooden Award All-American Team and Wooden Award Trophy as the most outstanding college basketball player in the United States.

All balloted players have been certified by their University and meet or exceed the qualifications for the Wooden Award as set forth by Coach Wooden when the Award was established. The qualifications include: candidates must exhibit strength of character, both on and off the court; candidates must be full-time students in an accredited NCAA college or University; candidates must be making progress toward graduation and have a cumulative 2.00 grade point average since enrolling in their school; candidates must contribute to team effort; candidates must excel in both offense and defense; and candidates should be considered on their performance over the course of the entire season.

Voting will take place from March 13th to March 20th, and voters take into consideration a player's entire season of play, as well as the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament. The finalists for the 2023 Wooden Award presented by Wendy's will be announced on March 29th.

Davis leads the NCAA in scoring (28.2 ppg.), total points (930), total 3-pointers (159), 3-pointers per game (4.82) and total field goals (303), while his 37:23 minutes a game is second in the Horizon League and seventh in the country. On the year, he has made a school-record 159, 3-pointers, second in NCAA history and three away from tying the single-season mark of 162 by Stephen Curry in 2007-08.

He also 3,664 career points, second in NCAA history and three away from tying Pete Maravich's record 3,667. He already holds four NCAA records in career 3-pointers (588), 3-pointers by a freshman (132), consecutive games in double figures (144) and total games in double figures (144), while his 1,219 field goals are sixth all-time in NCAA history. During the year, he became just the second player in NCAA history to amass 3,000 points and 500 assists.
