DETROIT (4/22/2022) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team fell in its final home game of the season, 18-3, on Saturday afternoon.
The game was called with seven minutes left after lightning was spotted and with severe weather in the area.
It was Senior Day as the program honored their eight-member senior class in
David Beacom,
Ryan Birney,
Cole Gellatly,
Tyler Hart,
Kyle Loken,
Asher Mendell,
Ethan Pattinson and
Ivan Progar.
Birney ended the day with a pair of goals, while freshman
Drew Kessenich had the other.
Hart posted a season-high 14 saves. Redshirt freshman
Eoghan Mullett had a career-tying two caused turnovers and five ground balls, while sophomore
Sean Henige had a season-tying caused turnovers and four GB's. Junior
Noah Martin had two caused turnovers and three ground balls and freshman
Joe Janda recorded a caused turnover with a season-tying four GB's.
The Titans (2-10, 2-6 ASUN) scored first, with Birney beating the goalie, but Bellarmine (10-4, 5-3 ASUN) took control with a 9-0 run after that.
Detroit Mercy will return to action next Saturday as the red, white and blue visit Cleveland State.
Game Notes:
- This was the 14th career meeting between the two schools - tying for the most against one opponent in school history with Marist - as the Titans and Knights have met every year except the pandemic season of 2021, when the red, white and blue only played conference programs
- Detroit Mercy is now 5-9 all-time against Bellarmines and 2-4 all-time at home
- Hart's career-high in saves was 15 at High Point last season
- Mullett's career-high in ground balls is seven at Jacksonville, while its the third time this season he has had two caused turnovers in a game
- Henige also had two caused turnovers at High Point and at Queens and four GB's at HPU
- Janda also had four ground balls at VMI
