INDIANAPOLIS (4/4/2023) -- With the conclusion of the national championship game on Monday night, it is now official as University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball graduate senior
Antoine Davis led the nation in three categories during the 2022-23 campaign.
Davis led the nation in scoring at 28.2 points per game, total points at 930, and with 4.82, 3-pointers per game. All three marks were Horizon League records, while the 930 points and 4.82 triples per game were both school records.Â
The 28.2 average is just second in the school record book behind Spencer Haywood's 32.1 in 1968-69, and Haywood is also the only other Titan ever to lead the nation in a statistic as he topped DI in rebounding with 22.1 in 1968-69.Â
Davis' 4.82, 3-pointers per game is also third all-time in NCAA history, trailing only Florida A&M's Terrence Woods' 4.96 in 2002-03 and Butler's Darrin Fitzgerald's 5.64 in 1986-87.Â
His 930 points were the most by a player since Hofstra's Justin Wright-Foreman (948) and Campbell's Chris Clemons (993) in 2018-19. His 28.2 ppg., and the 4.8 margin over the second-highest scorer was the best since Central Michigan's Marcus Keene's 30.0 and 4.9 clip in 2016-17.Â
Davis also nearly led the nation in a few other stats, as his 159 total triples was a new school and HL record and third in NCAA history, trailing just Stephen Curry of Davidson in 2007-08 (162) and Liberty's Darius McGhee this season. In addition, his 303 field goals were a new conference record and second in the NCAA on the year, 10 behind Gonzaga's Drew Timme, and his 90.7 free-throw percentage led the league and was eighth in the nation and 165 total free throws 21st.Â
The all-time three-point king also nailed 41.2% from distance, the conference leader and 20th in DI.Â
The two-time Honorable Mention AP All-American and Third Team USBWA All-Amercian, finished his career holding four NCAA records in total 3-pointers (588), 3-pointers by a freshman (132), consecutive games in double figures (144) and total games in double figures (144). His 3,664 career points are second in NCAA history, just three shy of Pete Maravich's record 3,667, while his 1,219 field goals are sixth all-time in the NCAA record book. Davis' 4.08, three-point field goals per game are third all-time in NCAA history, and he is also the only play to ever post 3,500 points and 500 assists.Â
Senior
Gerald Liddell was fourth in the Horizon League and 55th in the country with 10 double-doubles, while his 91 free throws were 10th in the league.
As a team, the Titans were eighth in the nation with 10.2, 3-pointers per game, 11th in three-point field-goal percentage (38.6%), eighth in offensive rebounds per game (13.12) and 60th in offense (76.6).Â
