YOUNGSTOWN, OH. (5/7/23) -- The University of Detroit Mercy track and field team, led by a record setting relay performance, finished fourth at the Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Youngstown State University.
The 4x100 Relay team of
Evan Eding,
Elijah Major,
Dante Bassham, and
Antonio Talley took home the gold along with a new Titans record at 41.00 seconds.
John Burke improved upon his own program record in the Steeplechase with a 9:19.76 time which knocks off roughly 10 seconds from his time. Burke's record performance was good for Bronze at the championship meet.
Burke also scored fifth in the 1500-Meter for Detroit Mercy and
Joshua Otten finished 0.26 seconds behind him for sixth.
At 53.14 seconds,
Payton Norkey tallied third in the 400-Hurdles. Norkey also scored the Titans record for the 110-Hurdles at 14.48 seconds for Bronze.
Elijah Major and
Dante Bassham sprinted to top-five finishes in the 100-Meter and 200-Meter. Bassham took second in the 100-Meter and fourth in the 200-Meter while Major scored third in the 100-Meter and silver in the 200-Meter. Bassham's time in the 100-Meter was the top Titans time of the season, beating out Major's 10.53 second preliminary time at the Don Kleinow Invitational. Major's 21.34 seconds in the 200-Meter was also a top Titan time of the season, besting Bassham's 21.74 seconds at the Tennessee Invitational.
