Davis, Bass Suiting Up In NBA Las Vegas Summer League

Antoine Davis (L) and Paris Bass (R) will have a chance to shine for their respective NBA teams in Las Vegas
DETROIT (7/6/2023) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball program will have a pair of alums looking to find a full-time spot in the NBA as Antoine Davis and Paris Bass will play in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

Davis will be on the Portland Trailblazers after they signed him to a free agent two-way contract following the NBA draft, while Bass will compete with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Davis finished his college career with four NCAA records in total 3-pointers (588), 3-pointers by a freshman (132), consecutive games in double figures (144) and total games in double figures (144). He tallied 3,664 career points, second in NCAA history, just three shy of Pete Maravich's record 3,667, while his 1,219 field goals were sixth all-time. A threat from the outside, his 4.08, three-point field goals per game are third all-time in NCAA history, and he is also the only player to ever post 3,500 points and 500 assists, with his 594 helpers third in the school record book.

Overall, he netted 105 career 20-point games, 40 career 30-point outings and eight 40-point contests in 144 collegiate games - reaching at least 17 points in 125 of them. He also connected on a 3-pointer in 139 of his 144 collegiate games - including 48-straight at one point - and had 82 career games with four or more triples, 33 with six or more, 17 games with seven or more, five games with 10 or more with a Horizon League tournament record 10 against Robert Morris in 2021 and a school-record 11 versus RMU in 2023.

As a senior, the two-time Horizon League Player of the Year and Honorable Mention All-American as well as Academic All-American, led the nation in scoring at 28.2 points per game, total points at 930, and with 4.82, 3-pointers per game. All three marks were Horizon League records, while the 930 points and 4.82 triples per game were both school marks. He became just the second player in school history to ever lead the nation in a national statistic (Spencer Haywood's 22.1 rpg. in 1968-69).

Bass - who signed two 10-day hardship contracts with the Phoenix Suns and saw action in two games in 2021-22 - was in Puerto Rico last year, where he averaged 18.8 points and 9.6 rebounds, as well as in the NBA G League for Salt Lake City and Wisconsin. In 27 games with the Herd, he posted 18.9 points and 8.1 rebounds while shooting 50.5% from the field and 37.1% from three.

A local product from Seaholm High School, he was with the Titans for three seasons from 2013-16. He redshirted his first year and then earned Horizon League Freshman of the Year in 2015 after averaging 12.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game, leading the team in rebounding and finishing second on the team in scoring and assists. He also topped the squad with 35 blocks. As a sophomore, he was tabbed First Team All-Horizon League and Second Team NABC All-District after leading the team in scoring (18.4), rebounding (8.0), blocks (1.4) and steals (1.4), finishing fourth in the HL in blocks, fifth in scoring and rebounding, and tied for sixth in steals. He scored in double figures in 19 of his 24 contests with 13, 20-point outings and seven double-doubles, which was tied for third in the HL in 20-point games and tied for seventh in double-doubles.

Bass played in both the San Francisco and Las Vegas summer leagues last year for the Los Angeles Lakers and was with the South Bay Lakers in the G League in 2021-22 and the Erie Bay Hawks in 2016-17, along with overseas stops in the Dominican Republic, Taiwan, Puerto Rico and Colombia.

The NBA Summer League in Las Vegas will run from July 7-17, with all the games televised on NBA TV or on the ESPN family of Networks.
